Waterproof printed version
A full-color, double-sided, 26 x 39" map printed on durable waterproof plastic at 1:25,000 scale
This map covers all of Humboldt Redwoods State Park. The front of the map shows the main body of the park, while the back shows the northern and southern panhandles, plus John B. Dewitt Redwoods State Natural Reserve, Benbow State Recreation Area, Richardson Grove State Park, Smith Redwoods State Natural Reserve, Standish-Hickey State Recreation Area, Grizzly Creek Redwoods State Park, and Van Duzen County Park. A 1:500,000 scale map of the North Coast is also included.
The map does not include the Headwaters Forest Reserve or Sinkyone Wilderness.
This is the largest-scale and most detailed map of Humboldt Redwoods, and is the only printed trail map of the park available to the public other than the official trail map and the park brochure. All official hiking trails were drawn from newly-acquired GPS data with a resolution of about 250 feet. Trail mileages are marked and most streets that have names are labeled. To help you keep track of your location, the map shows the locations of memorial grove markers, footbridges, panoramic viewpoints, and stairs. A UTM grid is provided to help with GPS navigation.
Unofficial trails and dirt roads are shown and are greyed out to distinguish them from official hiking trails. I don’t recommend that you use these trails, but if you accidently wander onto one, having it on the map will help you get back on track.
This is the only commercially-available map of the park to show which areas have old-growth redwoods (drawn as dark green areas) — an important feature since most of the park’s longer trails actually pass through second-growth forest.
For the third edition, the trails were updated with new, more accurate GPS data. The rebuilt trails on the west side of the Eel River are now shown, and maps of Grizzly Creek Redwoods, Van Duzen County Park, and Standish-Hickey State Park have been added. Wooded and developed areas have been redrawn at a higher resolution and the hillshade has been re-rendered to give a better impression of the area’s large-scale topography.
